About Ed Rock Station Entertainment

Live in Canberra and you want to go to the coast for the weekend but you’re not sure where the best gigs are?  Live in Cooma and feel like a change but not sure where to visit?

Ed set up Ed Rock Station Entertainment after he couldn’t find a website that advertised pub and club venue entertainment in the region within about a 3 hour drive from Canberra (except Sydney of course), namely:

  • Canberra;
  • Bowral;
  • Goulburn;
  • NSW South Coast;
  • Snowy Mountains;
  • Cooma;
  • Jindabyne;
  • Harden;
  • Young;
  • Etc.

Ed has played in virtually all of these areas and decided to make contact with the venues he has played at (and other interested ones) to offer advertising of local gigs.

Therefore, let Ed Rock Station Entertainment be the foundation of your live entertainment information for the region.  It’s your one stop for local live entertainment details.

If you regularly have live bands or duos at your venue in (or around) the above region, please contact us and if the type of entertainment is appropriate for Ed Rock Station Entertainment, we may include your venue on this site.

Ed is starting this site with free advertising, but hopes to expand it to include paid advertising for larger, prominent advertisements in the near future.

About Ed

Ed has been singing in the Canberra region for a long time.  He actually doesn’t want to mention how long because he kind of looks young!

Whilst in College he was invited to partake in musical goings-on with the then up-and-coming band The Church.  Ironically, Ed’s church-going parents absolutely banned him from meeting-up with the members of that band EVER again.

Ed later whiled-away his time in a trio named Whisper.  To the trio’s utter horror, a feminine sanitary product with the same name was soon released.  The trio briefly called themselves Ex-Whisper, but ultimately their days were over.

Ed then successfully auditioned as the lead vocalist for a new band which was eventually named Alted Image (the former bass player had posters printed and clearly he couldn’t spell.  From that point onwards they were stuck with the mis-spelled name).

A few members moved on, but ultimately the members of Alted Image formed a tightly-knit group.  They were:

  • Ed Deakin (lead vocals);
  • Steve Moore (lead guitarist extraordinaire, formerly of the successful band Bastille);
  • Roger Gould (bass guitar); and
  • Andrew Neuss (drums).

 While Ed and Steve often took the limelight, Andrew and Roger were individually very good musicians, but absolutely brilliant when working together.

Alted Image became quite well known in the region.  While actually a covers band, their originals fared equally well on the dance floor.  At their peak, they supported bands like The Living Daylights and the Screaming Jets

It was suggested to them after supporting the Screaming Jets that they might want to accompany the Jets on their national tour.  However at this point decisions had to be made.  Ed was the only one without a great day-job (and so willing to go on tour).  Steve and Roger had become successful in IT and Andrew was running his very reputable and successful car mechanic business.  This, therefore, saw the end of Alted Image - although the lads have remained good friends ever since.

Ed ultimately stepped into the duo scene and made a brief move to Queensland (for about six months) where he ended up having regular gigs at the Capricorn International Resort at Yeppoon.  Eventually he returned to Canberra where he continued to work in duos with various guitarists, including Steve Moore from the Alted Image days.  However, once again Steve’s IT brilliance got in the way and Ed had to find another guitarist to fill-in while Steve took off to New York to train people (with his IT brilliance).  Finally Ed and Steve went their separate ways once more and this time Roger Goult from Alted Image threw aside his bass guitar and took up the challenge to play lead guitar in the duo Kudos with Ed.

Roger’s playing progressed quite well over the years, although some might say that Ed and Rog got a bit comfortable with each other after a while and ceased taking risks.  Rog recently – after close to a decade (oops there I go hinting at the passage of time again) – moved to Queensland for LURVE.

In the meantime Ed has discovered an almost-Steve-Moore-legendary guitarist in Phil Lopez.  They’re still getting to know each other but to-date have impressed both in and out of town, with regular gigs at The Durham Arms in Kingston and The Hellenic Club in Woden (both in Canberra).

While Ed clearly could have taken-up work as a solo artist and earned more money, he’s actually a social lad.  He loves the company and camaraderie of band-mates.  For this reason, he sent a tape into the INXS Rockstar show (now there’s a band that sticks together like Alted Image did).  But maybe he sent his audition tape to the wrong address and it ended up with The Pussycat Dolls instead...  The Pussycat Dolls didn’t call back either.  Maybe that’s because Ed really can’t do those bump-and-grind or thrust-and-shake moves – well, not without having everyone rolling on the floor laughing.  A pity about INXS though.  I mean, did they really have to go with a sickeningly gorgeous lead singer?  And Ed was really looking forward to some free surfing lessons from LB too...

But moving on.  Ed is a never-say-die person.  And he’s back.  He’s a brave, clean singer who can sing anything from Chrissie Amphlett to Bon Jovi; from Elton John to Robbie Williams.  And of course INXS!  In fact, while travelling through Queensland in places like Emerald, he even turned his hand, or should I say microphone, to some Garth Brooks songs and got standing ovations!  However, good old rock ‘n’ roll is where his heart is.

Now that he’s inspired once more, he’s turning his hand back to writing his originals – this time with current duo member Phil.  Watch this space for samples!
